Malaria occurs in South Africa but only in certain areas as illustrated below.
Malaria does not occur in the Eastern Cape Province where "Greater Addo" is situated. The mosquito that carries malaria (not all mosquito's do) is active between sundown and sunrise. In this time it helps to use repellents that contain the ingredient DEET when you're in a risk area. If you happen to stay in an accommodation that offers a mosquito net it's advisable to use it and keep doors and windows closed.Preventive medication
Chloroquine and Proguanil are recommended for malaria areas in South Africa. This should be taken one week before entering a malaria region and should be continued for a further four weeks after leaving the area. If you become ill or if flu-like symptoms appear within three months of leaving a malaria area, you're advised to seek medical attention even if anti-malaria medication has been taken.
